What is a partial rewire?
A partial rewire can involve anything from rewiring a single circuit, like a cooker circuit, to replacing all circuits except one. This is often required when certain circuits are damaged, such as after a property has experienced flooding. In these cases, affected cabling, plug sockets, and the consumer unit may need to be replaced to restore safety and functionality.
Partial rewires are also common in older properties where lighting circuits lack an earth connection, which wasn’t required before 1966 but is now mandatory. While a full rewire ensures all circuits are updated, it may not always be financially practical. If other circuits pass electrical testing and inspection, a partial rewire can be a cost-effective solution.

Is it better to get a full rewire?
There’s no straightforward answer to this question, as it depends entirely on the specific circumstances. If most of the electrical wiring, circuits, accessories (like sockets and switches), and earthing are safe and compliant with current regulations, a full rewire may not be necessary.
However, even if electrical circuits pass safety tests, it might still make sense to opt for a full rewire when considering a partial one.
